Job summary

Practice Plus Group’s Health in Justice team at HMP Doncaster is seeking a Bank Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to support prisoners in their recovery journey, delivering psychosocial interventions and assessments.

You will manage a caseload, triage new admissions with reception, run group sessions on overdose awareness and harm reduction, and help prepare patients for release, with shifts 8am–4pm and an hourly rate of £15.80 in a busy Category B remand prison.

Qualifications

  • Have experience within Substance misuse, ideally in a prison/secure environment, and ideally within a Recovery Worker/Practitioner role.
  • Have experience of working within the substance misuse multi-disciplinary framework, which includes housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways
  • Have experience of managing a caseload
  • Have a flexible approach, and excellent communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of psychosocial patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, trauma etc
  • Work with receptions (new patients entering the prison), triaging and carrying out assessments
  • Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction, motivation to change, relapse prevention and wellbeing
  • Providing a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments, including SMART Recovery
  • Facilitate peer led group sessions
  • Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood borne viruses and safe sex practices
  • Prepare patients for release and transfer
  • Work closely with MDT professionals, including within the prison and the community, such as probation, external drug & alcohol services etc

We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join our team at HMP YOI Doncaster, a busy Category B remand prison for males in Doncaster city centre.

About The Role

Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to make changes in their behaviour to promote health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care.

Hours

This is a bank role, with shifts falling between Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm.

Salary

The hourly rate is £15.80.
