Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to be one of the first to join our team at HMP Millsike, a brand new Category C men's prison, located in the village of Full Sutton near York.

HMP Millsike will have an operational capacity of 1500 people who will spend their sentences learning the skills they need to find work on release as part of the government's drive to cut reoffending. The prison site is currently under construction and Practice Plus Group were recently awarded the healthcare contract to begin delivering services in April 2025.

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a new healthcare team from the inception of a brand new prison site.

This position is full time, you'll receive an annual salary of between £28,247 to £32,346 per annum depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job

As our new Substance Misuse Recovery Worker, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Delivering outstanding care to psycho-social patients, seeking out, listening to, and acting on their feedback - ensuring that their care is personalised and tailored to the individual.
  • Providing a programme of psycho-social interventions.
  • Providing information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood-borne viruses, and safe sex practices.
  • Delivering care on a 1-1 basis as well as group sessions.
