Job Description:

As a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing support and guidance to individuals navigating through substance misuse issues. You will work closely with clients, offering personalised assistance tailored to their needs, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting thorough assessments of clients’ substance misuse history, mental health status, and social circumstances to develop personalised recovery plans.
  • Providing one-on-one support to clients, offering counselling, advice, and practical assistance to aid in their recovery journey.
  • Organising and facilitating group therapy sessions, educational workshops, and support groups to foster a sense of community and mutual support among clients.
  • Working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including psychologists, social workers, and medical staff, to coordinate holistic care for clients.
  • Advocating for clients’ needs and rights within healthcare and social service systems, and facilitate referrals to external agencies for additional support services.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and treatment plans in accordance with organisational and regulatory standards.
  • Engaging in outreach activities to raise awareness about substance misuse issues, promote harm reduction strategies, and provide education to the wider community.
  • Staying informed about current trends, research, and best practices in the field of substance misuse treatment through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a substance misuse or addiction treatment setting.
  • Strong understanding of substance misuse disorders, treatment modalities, and recovery principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude towards individuals struggling with substance misuse.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing substance misuse treatment and confidentiality.
