Job Description

Due to the recent recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Nurse - Non Medical Prescriber to join our Primary Care team at HMP Brixton. HMP Brixton is now a Category B male prison since April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients' needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody.

Hours Full time, 30 hours per week - Monday to Friday.

Salary From £54,000 to £58,000 per annum FTE (£43,200 to £46,400 per annum pro rata) - depending on experience.

What you'll be doing

As a Non Medical Prescriber your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Undertakes Clinical Nursing Practice at an advanced level using expert knowledge and clinical skills to deliver care to patients
  • Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence.
  • Provide treatment as required, including prescribing medication, within their sphere of competence.
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments of patients looked after.
  • Provide advice/support in relation to crisis situations, conditions, and treatment plans, based on medical and treatment history.
  • Carry out a clinical review with the patient and update care plans accordingly
