St Andrew's Healthcare in Birmingham is seeking a Substance Misuse Nurse RMN/RGN to join our multidisciplinary team on a 12-month fixed term contract. You will deliver high-quality assessments, consultations and interventions for individuals experiencing substance misuse.

The role requires post‑registration experience, knowledge of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological treatments, and the ability to work with patients, families and the ward MDT to plan safe, person-centred care and hopeful

Qualifications

  • Registered Practitioner with post-registration experience working therapeutically with service users addressing alcohol and substance misuse.
  • Knowledge of psychotherapeutic treatments and pharmacological treatments that support recovery.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team delivering assessments and interventions for substance misuse.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality assessments, consultations and interventions (group and 1:1) for individuals experiencing substance misuse.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, carers and a wide range of professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Develop person-centred treatment and risk management plans to support safe care and recovery.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement within St Andrew’s and Reach Out collaboration.

Our Birmingham site is a thriving member of the Reach Out provider collaborative alongside our NHS partners of Birmingham and Solihull NHS Foundation Trust, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust and Midlands Partnership NHS Trust. Situated 3 miles from the City Centre in the south of the City.

The Role

This is an exciting new opportunity for Birmingham, offering the chance to shape and grow an emerging service that will make a real difference to the lives of our patients. We are looking for a passionate and skilled Registered Practitioner with post‑registration experience working therapeutically with service users to address patterns of alcohol and substance misuse.

In this role, you will be an integral part of our positive, committed multidisciplinary clinical team on the Birmingham site—delivering high‑quality assessments, consultations and interventions (both group and 1:1) for individuals experiencing substance misuse challenges. This includes those with co‑occurring mental health difficulties or long‑term physical health conditions. You will be involved in providing the psychotherapeutic treatments and have knowledge of the pharmacological treatments that support recovery.

You will work collaboratively with patients, families, carers and a wide range of professionals, including the ward‑based MDT, ensuring every person receives compassionate, coordinated and effective care.

Your expertise in related risk assessment will enable you to develop thoughtful, person‑centred treatment and risk management plans that support safe care, promote recovery and contribute to well‑planned, hopeful discharge pathways.
