Job summary

DC Thomson's magazine teams, including The People's Friend and My Weekly, are seeking a Sub-Editor with a sharp editorial eye to ensure accuracy and readability across print and digital content.

You will edit and polish copy, craft headlines, check facts, and ensure house style while collaborating with editors, designers and production colleagues to meet deadlines and publish high-quality content for multiple titles.

Qualifications

• Strong editorial eye and excellent written English.
• Experience in sub-editing, editorial production, publishing, newspapers, magazines or content production.
• Excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills.
• Strong attention to detail and confidence in fact-checking content.
• Ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences.
• Knowledge of editorial standards, copyright and publishing considerations.
• Experience with CMS or editorial production systems.
• Strong organisation and ability to juggle deadlines.
• Collaborative approach across editorial, design and production teams.

Responsibilities

• Sub-editing, proofreading and polishing copy for accuracy, consistency and readability.
• Reworking content while preserving writer’s voice and intent.
• Crafting headlines, standfirsts, captions and display copy.
• Fact-checking names, dates, quotes and story details.
• Ensuring content meets house style, editorial standards and publishing requirements.
• Collaborating with editors, designers and production colleagues to keep projects moving.
• Preparing content for print and digital publication.
• Managing competing priorities and deadlines across titles.
• Getting to grips with publishing systems and evolving technology, including AI-assisted tools.
• Maintaining quality and reader trust across magazines.
