Sub-Editor, Magazines
DC Thomson | The People’s Friend & My Weekly
We’re looking for a Sub-Editor to join our magazine team, working across much-loved titles including The People’s Friend and My Weekly.
This is a role for someone who notices the things others miss. The awkward sentence. The questionable fact. The headline that could work just that little bit harder.
You’ll work closely with our editors, designers and production colleagues to make sure every piece of content is accurate, engaging and ready for publication, whether it’s destined for print or digital.
You’ll be hands-on with content every day, including:
You’ll have a strong editorial eye, excellent written English and a genuine instinct for what makes copy work.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
Experience with Adobe InDesign, image-editing software or AI-assisted editorial tools would be useful, but isn’t essential.
You’re naturally curious, meticulous without losing sight of the bigger picture, and probably the person who spots the typo everyone else has read past three times.
You’re comfortable working at pace, happy switching between different styles and audiences, and you know that great sub-editing isn’t just about correcting copy. It’s about making good content better.
Most importantly, you care about the reader and about getting the details right.
You’ll be joining a business with storytelling at its heart and working with magazine brands that have built lasting relationships with generations of readers.
This is an opportunity to put your editorial skills to work across established titles, collaborate with experienced creative teams and continue developing your skills across print, digital and evolving publishing technology.
If you’ve got a sharp eye, a love of language and an instinct for making every word earn its place, we’d love to hear from you. Closing date applications: 28th October 2026 at 5pm
