Job summary

Barhale Holdings is seeking a Sub Agent to manage small-value civil sites and assist Site Agent on larger schemes, ensuring delivery meets objectives while upholding health, safety, quality and cost controls.

The role emphasizes maintaining programme, interpreting drawings, providing engineering support, and leading a compliant site team. Essential qualifications include a Civil Engineering degree, CSCS/SMSTS, and NEBOSH or IOSH, with driving license and strong leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Considerable experience in civil engineering.
  • Working knowledge of NEC contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, programme and risk management, and cost control including forecasting, actual cost and value reporting.
  • Good knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering.
  • Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
  • CSCS card.
  • SMSTS card.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Excellent communication, people and team management skills with the ability to motivate others to achieve high compliance standards.
  • Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to a conclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain commercial performance of the contract.
  • Ensure successful delivery of projects.
  • Produce and manage the project programme and supervise its delivery.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Provide engineering expertise and support to the project team.
  • Ensure all staff, subcontractors and visitors are properly inducted and meet required competencies.
  • Represent the business to customers, the public and official bodies.
  • Deliver products to customer satisfaction.
  • Produce accurate monthly reports for the client and internally.
  • Chair weekly site meetings in line with company procedures.
  • Obtain accurate and relevant ‘as built’ information.

Sub Agent

As a Sub Agent, you will manage small‑value civil engineering and construction sites or assist the Site Agent and Project Manager on larger value schemes, ensuring project delivery meets customer objectives while maintaining health and safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain commercial performance of the contract.
  • Ensure successful delivery of projects.

  • Provide engineering expertise and support to the project team.
  • Ensure all staff, subcontractors and visitors are properly inducted and meet required competencies.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
  • Always comply with company procedures and legal obligations, promoting best practice.
  • Promote Barhale cardinal rules and establish safe working cultures and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain and manage construction sites and subcontractors, building positive relationships.
  • Ensure HSEQ documentation is up to date and briefed.
  • Carry out daily, weekly and monthly inspections; produce audits and reports.
  • Liaise with relevant third parties and government agencies.
  • Ensure the QA file is produced and maintained.
  • Deliver work snag/defect‑free and on time.
Cost Control
  • Populate and manage the Barhale cost plan for the project.
  • Maximise project value and maintain commercial tension to drive cost savings.
  • Ensure detailed site diaries and records are completed.
Managing Resources
  • Address resource problems promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of resources.
About you – Essential
