Job description

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a major investment in the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield. It is a multi-billion-pound, transformative, long-term infrastructure programme aimed at improving connectivity in the North, supporting economic growth, and delivering benefits for passengers and communities along this vital rail corridor.

TRU offers an exciting portfolio of civil engineering projects suitable for various interests and skillsets. We are seeking dynamic individuals to join our team in the Huddersfield to Dewsbury corridor as Sub Agents during the construction phase of this prestigious scheme.

Your mission

As a Sub Agent, you will be responsible for:

• Setting a personal example in health, safety, and environmental matters by ensuring compliance with company policies through method statements, risk assessments, and briefings.
• Managing, supervising, and mentoring Section, Site, and Assistant Engineers to ensure high standards of engineering control and proper record-keeping.
• Maintaining good relationships with Alliance staff and supply chain partners.
• Promoting a cost-conscious attitude through efficient resource use.
• Supporting the Agent in operating the cost management system and producing short-term programmes.
• Communicating effectively with key stakeholders and fostering a collaborative approach.
• Adopting and promoting the use of BIM technologies.
• Coordinating with the General Foreman to ensure adequate work preparation and resource availability.
• Assisting the Agent in procuring necessary materials, sub-contracts, and plant in a timely manner.
• Conducting 1-to-1 meetings, PDRs, and supporting the development and training of junior staff.
• Identifying non-conformances and implementing corrective actions.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have:

• Qualification to ICE Technician or Incorporated level or equivalent (preferred).
• Successful experience at section engineer level.
• Thorough knowledge of company health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
• Demonstrated growth in commercial and contractual knowledge.
• Completion of SMSTS certification.
