Job summary

Dragados UK & Ireland seeks a Sub-Agent (Structures) to lead reinforced concrete packages within a major data centre project in London. You will coordinate between design, construction, procurement and commercial teams, ensuring delivery within schedule and cost targets.

You will drive readiness planning, monitor progress, manage risks and foster safe, compliant site practices across the package. The role requires leadership of a multi-disciplinary construction team and adherence to project

Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Experience delivering structural works on major construction projects.
  • Membership of ICE, CIOB, APM or equivalent body (or working towards).
  • Experience managing reinforced concrete packages and temporary works.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Sub-Agent (Structures) is responsible for leading packages to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost, and quality requirements. Guides and coordinates with all relevant parties to understand and deliver project objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), providing day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team.

Project: Global Switch London South (LONS) 5-story, 40MW data centre.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To support and report to the Agent or Structures Lead in all the elements related to the construction, programme of works and commercial issues of the works.
  • Responsible for the co-ordination between the construction, design, procurement, and commercial departments to ensure the sub-contractors can progress work on site in accordance with the schedule of works.
  • Ensure that client requirements are met, ensuring that all quality, assurance, and compliance documentation is provided in a timely manner, collaborating with relevant parties/stakeholders.
  • Assist a high performing team through the setting of clear SMART targets via the team plan and complying with the performance management process for all team members.
  • Ensure works are monitored to achieve right first-time workmanship and undertaking lessons learnt reviews to promote continuous improvement, while maintaining daily records.
  • Support the construction team with the technical and engineering aspects of the works, in particular method statements, ITPs (Inspection Test Plan), construction process, engineering specifications, set out and measurement and quality control, certificate and compliance.
  • Closely monitor the progress of the package works, reporting on actual cost, forecast, and highlighting any problems and issues for resolution to the Project Package Lead.
  • Develop and manage readiness planning for commencing works including ensuring all permits are in place before commencing activities.
  • Determine and arrange project technical services and external resources required for the project.
  • Oversee package timeframes and budgets, ensuring successful delivery of projects, highlighting any risks, challenges, and mitigations.
  • Participate in and records relevant meetings, providing relevant parties with contextual information and analysis, including regular site walks.
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders being involved in risk management and mitigation treatments.
  • Document and take ownership of project changes as and when necessary, tracking project changes and ensuring they are processed and formalised within the agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure all approved handover documentation is coordinated and provided prior to practical completion.
  • Work collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
  • Project Specific:
  • Manage the delivery of reinforced concrete structures including foundations, slabs, walls, columns, cores and associated structural elements.
  • Ensure all temporary works associated with structural construction are designed, approved, implemented and inspected in accordance with project procedures.
  • Coordinate interfaces between structures, civil works, architecture, fit-out and MEP installations.
  • Lead construction readiness activities ensuring labour, plant, materials, permits and engineering information are available before work commences.
  • Monitor programme performance and actively manage critical path activities affecting the structures package.
  • Review engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and temporary works designs.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and implement recovery actions where productivity or programme targets are at risk.
  • Ensure all quality documentation, inspection records, test results and handover records are maintained and completed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to coordinate deliveries, crane utilisation, site access and material storage requirements.
  • Assist in commercial management including progress assessment, change management, compensation events and forecasting of package costs.
Technical skills and Competencies:
  • Working knowledge and expertise in specific project/role.

  • Promotes, champions and implements all best practices, safety management and safety initiatives across all aspect of design and site delivery, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment is achieved for all.
  • Partners with others providing day to day project leadership to achieve deliverables.
  • Manages small teams providing guidance, direction and coordination.
  • Mentors and develops the project team; provides a safe work environment to learn and mature.
  • Champions and operates within an inclusive environment.

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience:
  • Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Sub-Agent, Section Engineer, Senior Engineer or Package Manager delivering structural works on major construction projects.
  • Membership of ICE, CIOB, APM or equivalent professional body (or working towards).
  • Demonstrable experience managing reinforced concrete packages and associated temporary works
  • Experience managing specialist subcontractors and multidisciplinary construction teams.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, logistics and temporary works management.
  • Desirable experience in the delivery of data centre developments, mission-critical facilities or complex building environments.
  • Experience coordinating interfaces between structural, architectural and MEP installations.
  • Appropriate Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card (or local equivalent).
