Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Sub Agent to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a major highways infrastructure scheme in Gloucestershire. You will manage construction activities, supervise site teams and ensure safety, quality and programme targets are met.

This role offers ownership of key work packages on a high-profile project and opportunities to contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure works.

Qualifications

• Experience as Sub Agent on highways, infrastructure or major civil projects.
• Strong civil engineering background including earthworks, drainage, structures and highways.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
• Good understanding of NEC contracts.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day delivery of highways and civil engineering works.
• Support planning and coordination of construction activities.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Lead site teams, subcontractors and engineering resources.
• Monitor progress against programme and identify solutions to challenges.
• Review RAMS, ITPs, permits and temporary works requirements.
• Maintain accurate site records and report project performance.
• Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, commercial teams and stakeholders.
• Drive productivity while ensuring works are delivered right first time.

The Role

As Sub Agent, you will play a key role in managing construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for coordinating site operations, managing engineering teams, and maintaining programme and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day delivery of highways and civil engineering works
• Supporting the planning and coordination of construction activities
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
• Leading site teams, subcontractors, and engineering resources
• Monitoring progress against programme and identifying solutions to overcome challenges
• Reviewing RAMS, ITPs, permits, and temporary works requirements
• Maintaining accurate site records and reporting project performance
• Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, commercial teams, and stakeholders
• Driving productivity while ensuring works are delivered right first time

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Sub Agent on highways, infrastructure, or major civil engineering projects
• Strong all-round civil engineering background, including earthworks, drainage, structures, utilities, and highways works
• Experience managing multidisciplinary site teams and subcontractors
• Good understanding of NEC contracts
• Ability to manage programme, quality, and cost performance
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid preferred
