Offer Description

Global Banking School (GBS) was founded in 2010 as a specialist training center for finance and investment banking. Initially offering courses to students worldwide, GBS expanded its offerings over the years. In 2016, GBS opened its first campus in London’s East End, focusing on providing education to underrepresented groups. Today, GBS has ten campuses across London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in finance, business, healthcare, and more. With over 35,000 students, GBS continues to grow and evolve, aiming to transform lives through education.

We are currently seeking full-time Study Skills Lecturers to develop and teach study skills across a range of HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level. Flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings, and weekends is required.

Please note this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

As a Study Skills Lecturer, you will work closely with subject lecturers to develop and teach study skills within the curriculum across a range of HE programmes. This includes improving English language and numeracy, organisational and presentation skills, digital literacy, basic IT skills, reading, writing, and higher-order research skills.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Designing and documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans, and schemes of work to develop study skills in the curricula.
  2. Delivering and evaluating teaching, and identifying areas for improvement to enhance the student experience, in line with GBS’s Learning and Teaching strategy.
  3. Maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance, and monitoring student attendance.
  4. Participating in, and occasionally leading, CPD to stay current in specialist areas and inclusive teaching practices.
  5. Providing feedback on individual and class progress regarding academic writing and other study skills.
  6. Offering tutorial consultations, providing constructive feedback, and suggesting improvements.
  7. Recording details from appointments for evaluation and referring students to other services as needed.
  8. Engaging with VLE and research resources to facilitate online learning.
  9. Contributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable).
  • Proven experience teaching adult learners in HE settings.
  • Experience providing individual and group study skills support.
  • Willingness to lead specific literacy development areas.
  • High digital literacy and communication skills.
  • Experience in course design and curriculum development.
  • Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent, or a commitment to obtain it within three years; or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent).
