Offer Description

Global Banking School (GBS) was founded in 2010 as a specialist training center for finance and investment banking. Initially offering courses to students worldwide, GBS expanded its offerings over the years. In 2016, GBS opened its first campus in London’s East End, focusing on providing education to underrepresented groups. Today, GBS has ten campuses across London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in finance, business, healthcare, and more. With over 35,000 students, GBS continues to grow and evolve, aiming to transform lives through education.

We are currently seeking full-time Study Skills Lecturers to develop and teach study skills across a range of HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level. We require flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

As a Study Skills Lecturer, you will work in close collaboration with subject lecturers to develop and teach study skills within the curriculum across a range of HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level. This includes, for example, improving English language and numeracy, organisational and presentation skills, digital literacy and basic IT skills, reading, writing, and higher-order research skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing/documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans, and individual schemes of work as required to develop study skills in the curricula.
  • Delivering/evaluating teaching and identifying areas for potential improvement to enhance the quality of teaching, learning, and overall student experience in accordance with GBS’s Learning and Teaching strategy.
  • Maintaining accurate records ensuring compliance and maintenance of relevant systems, including monitoring student attendance.
  • Participating in, and occasionally leading, CPD to maintain currency in specialist areas and in inclusive teaching practices.
  • Providing feedback on individual and class progress in their understanding of academic writing and other relevant study skills.
  • Providing tutorial consultations with students, constructive comments individual to each student's need, explaining where work fails to meet assessment criteria and suggesting ways to improve their work/working practices.
  • Recording details from these appointments for statistical, evaluation, and quality purposes, and to refer students to other services as appropriate.
  • Effectively engaging with VLE and research resources and facilitating students’ learning by means of engagement with online resources and activities.
  • Contributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in relevant subject area (PhD desirable).
  • Successful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmes.
  • Proven experience of providing individual and group study skills support in response to identified learning needs.
  • Willingness to lead a specific area of literacy development, such as reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills (quantitative or qualitative), project and dissertation support, peer-assisted learning.
  • High level of digital literacy and advanced communication skills.
  • Course design and curriculum development experience.
  • A Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent).
