Job summary

Central YMCA in Leeds is recruiting a full-time Childcare Tutor to deliver high-quality practical learning to post-16 learners studying Childcare qualifications at Levels 1 and 2. You will guide learners from initial interviews and assessments through to completion and accreditation, building industry knowledge, employability skills and progression routes.

You will also support English and Maths learning, work with specialist teams, and uphold EIF teaching standards to ensure excellent learner

Qualifications

  • PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare.
  • Recent experience in early years, childcare or education.
  • Sound safeguarding knowledge and child welfare understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver childcare teaching and assessment.
  • Teach Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications.
  • Support learners' employability and personal development.
  • Support delivery of English and Maths with specialist help.
  • Track learner progress and maintain records.
  • Provide pastoral and tutorial support.

Vacancy Type: Permanent/Full Time. Hours per week: 40. Location: Leeds. Salary Range: £27,000.

About You

You will:

  • Be confident in using a range of IT systems and educational technologies to monitor learner progress, maintain records and support effective delivery.
  • Be able to manage administrative responsibilities effectively, maintaining accurate learner records, monitoring progress and completing documentation in a timely manner.
  • Have experience of working within the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, with an understanding of inspection requirements and experience of supporting or participating in Ofsted inspections being advantageous.
Essential Requirements
  • PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare.
  • Recent and relevant industry experience working with children in an early years, childcare, or educational setting.
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable
  • GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above, Functional Skills Level 2, or an equivalent qualification in English and Maths.
  • Experience of teaching or training learners aged 16–19 within a further education or vocational setting.
  • Experience of supporting learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and adapting teaching to meet individual learning needs.
  • Knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework and inspection requirements.
About the Role

We are recruiting a Childcare Tutor to join our expanding provision at our Leeds 2 centre. This is a rewarding full‑time Childcare Study Programme Tutor role, delivering high‑quality, practical learning to post‑16 learners studying Childcare qualifications at Levels 1 and 2.

You will manage learners’ journeys from initial interview and assessment through to successful completion and accreditation, delivering engaging teaching that builds industry knowledge, employability skills, confidence and progression routes into further education, apprenticeships or employment.

Alongside vocational delivery, you will support learners to achieve English and Maths (Functional Skills or GCSE), working with specialist teams, and uphold the highest standards of teaching in line with the Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

Key Responsibilities
