Job summary

King James I Academy Bishop Auckland seeks an inspirational Student Support Worker to provide academic, behavioural and pastoral support for students from November 2026. The role involves establishing 1:1 and group sessions, building positive relationships, and liaising with senior leaders within the pastoral team.

The successful candidate will work with families, support safeguarding, and collaborate with external services to meet individual student needs and promote wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience in student support or pastoral care is desirable.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
• Understanding of safeguarding and welfare procedures.

Responsibilities

• Establish a systematic method of supporting students through 1:1 and group sessions.
• Identify support needs during initial sessions to tailor effective support.
• Provide support in areas such as anger, self-esteem, anxiety, and online safety.
• Work with families to create action plans and lead meetings where appropriate.
• Offer provision to help students achieve academic targets using assessment data.
• Use external services to provide referrals and additional support as needed.
• Safeguard students and determine appropriate safeguarding responses.
• Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to risk assessment for pupils.
