Job summary

Westbourne School, part of Outcomes First Group, is seeking a compassionate Student Support Coach on a maternity cover to provide pastoral, emotional and behavioural support for students with SEMH needs.

You will work with teachers, families and external agencies to develop personalised plans, de-escalate incidents and promote wellbeing, safeguarding and inclusion. Fixed-term start November 2026, 40 hours/week, term-time only at Westbourne School, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within education, pastoral care, mentoring or behaviour support.
• Understanding SEMH needs, autism and the challenges that can affect emotional wellbeing and engagement with learning.
• The ability to remain calm, patient and resilient when managing behaviours and safeguarding issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group pastoral support to develop confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Coach students in emotion regulation, self-management and positive behaviour strategies.
• Respond calmly to behavioural incidents using de-escalation and restorative approaches.
• Collaborate with teachers, the Student Support Lead and SLT to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
• Develop personalised support strategies including risk assessments and safety plans.
• Build relationships with parents, carers and external agencies for coordinated support.
• Support students with challenges like friendships, self-esteem and learning access.
• Contribute to school-wide behaviour initiatives and pastoral activities.
