Job summary

Westbourne School is seeking a compassionate Student Support Coach to join our Student Services Team. You will provide pastoral and emotional support to students with SEMH and autism, helping them build resilience and confidence in learning.

You will work closely with teachers and senior leaders to tailor interventions, respond to incidents, and foster a safe, inclusive environment where every student can thrive. DBS checks apply.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people in education or pastoral care.
• Understanding SEMH needs and autism.
• Calm, professional, and positive approach to challenging situations.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group pastoral support to build confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Coach students in emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Respond to behavioural incidents using de-escalation and restorative approaches.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
• Develop personalised support plans including risk assessments and safety plans.
• Engage with parents, carers, and external professionals to coordinate support.
• Support students with friendships, self-esteem, and access to learning.
• Contribute to school behaviour initiatives and pastoral activities.
