Job summary

Newport Independent Schools seeks an Instructional Assistant to support a certificated teacher by tutoring students, reinforcing instruction, and helping with assessments in a regular classroom. You will prepare lessons, manage materials, supervise labs and lunch activities, monitor student progress and behavior, and maintain attendance and records as part of a collaborative instructional team.

The position is a 186-day contract with a classified salary schedule and tied to standard school-year

Qualifications

• Passing KY Para-educator Assessment or 48 college hours.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Demonstrated competent language skills.
• Experience working with children, individually or in groups.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students individually or in small groups and track progress.
• Assist teacher by preparing materials, administering tests, and scoring.
• Maintain classroom records, attendance, and clerical tasks.
• Supervise students in labs, lunchrooms, and during activities.
• Confer with teachers to meet student needs; communicate with parents as needed.
