Job summary

University of Essex, through the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service (SWIS), seeks an Accessibility & Wellbeing Adviser to support students with disabilities and mental health needs. The role involves one-to-one appointments, crisis response, and referrals to specialist services, with duties including risk assessment, reasonable adjustments, and safety planning.

You will liaise with internal and external partners to ensure coordinated care and contribute to staff training and wellbeing

Qualifications

• Significant experience supporting individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges, including crisis intervention and risk assessment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, resilience under pressure, and commitment to inclusive, student-focused practice.
• Good general education; relevant professional qualification or degree desirable.
• Ability to work collaboratively, manage complex caseloads, and contribute to service improvement.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of students with disabilities or mental health difficulties, including complex and high-risk cases.
• Provide tailored support through one-to-one appointments, crisis response, and referrals to specialist services.
• Assess risk, implement reasonable adjustments, develop safety plans, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to service development, staff training, and initiatives promoting student wellbeing and resilience.
