Job Description:

Overview

We are seeking Structural Integrity Engineers for future opportunities within Rolls-Royce Submarines in Cardiff. This is a pipeline of potential roles, and applicants should note that immediate feedback is not guaranteed. We will review your CV promptly.

Why Join Rolls-Royce?

Our expanding Submarines division, supporting the Royal Navy and UK Ministry of Defence, is opening a new Cardiff office. We are looking for engineers across multiple disciplines, especially those with a strong background in Structural Integrity Engineering.

As a structural integrity engineer, your responsibilities will include assessments related to primary strength, fatigue, crack growth, and fracture, following standards like ASME III and R6. You will support various programmes, from in-service to new builds, and develop finite element models to analyze stresses and justify components.

We offer a dynamic work environment, competitive salary, and benefits including bonuses, support services, and discounts. Our hybrid working model allows flexibility between office, home, or remote locations, with an expectation of around three days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical assessments, including finite element analyses using Abaqus and other tools.
  • Develop and support component designs, inform lifecycle management, and support submarine programmes.
  • Create and implement methodologies for assessing submarine nuclear components.
  • Communicate assessment outcomes effectively to various stakeholders.

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Interest and expertise in structural integrity analysis.
  • Knowledge of failure mechanisms and assessment methods.
  • Experience with finite element software (Abaqus, ANSYS, HyperMesh).
  • Understanding of safety-critical industry standards (ASME III, R6).
  • Membership or progression toward chartership in a professional body.

We value diversity and are committed to an inclusive workplace. Applicants must hold UK nationality and a valid UK Security Check (SC) clearance, which we will support in obtaining if necessary. Dual nationals may require additional checks.
