Job description

Procter Street is resourcing on behalf of a growing consultancy, and we are looking for an ambitious Structural Engineer to join their expanding team.

This is a hands-on structural engineering position for a technically minded Structural Engineer who wants to take responsibility for delivering high-quality engineering services, developing strong client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

You will work closely with senior colleagues and the wider consultancy team, with the support and autonomy to manage your own projects and develop your professional experience. If you are looking for a role where you can take ownership of your projects, work directly with clients and have a meaningful influence on the delivery of a growing consultancy, this could be the role for you.

About the Consultancy

The consultancy is a growing specialist surveying and engineering business based in Manchester, working across the commercial, industrial, residential, retail and infrastructure sectors.

The business combines professional surveying expertise with modern technology and a practical understanding of the built environment. Its services span building surveying, structural engineering and project management, including dilapidations, pre-acquisition surveys, condition surveys, measured surveys, cladding remediation, contract administration, employer's agent services and tender procurement.

The consultancy brings together surveying, engineering, project management and construction expertise, providing clients with an integrated approach to the built environment. The business is ambitious about where it can go next and is looking for people who are ambitious too. It offers the opportunity for talented professionals to have a genuine influence, develop their careers, build lasting client relationships and contribute to the continued success of the business.

The Opportunity
  • Manage and contribute to a varied workload of structural engineering projects from initial client brief through to completion.
  • Undertake site inspections and structural investigations, identifying defects, movement, deterioration and other structural issues.
  • Prepare clear, accurate and well-presented structural reports, calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Develop structural designs and engineering solutions appropriate to the project requirements, existing building and client brief.
  • Undertake structural calculations and assessments for a range of building structures and materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation where required.
  • Provide practical engineering advice to clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Liaise with architects, contractors, surveyors, project managers and other consultants to ensure coordinated project delivery.
  • Attend project and client meetings, providing technical input and maintaining clear communication throughout the project.
  • Support the delivery of projects to agreed timescales, budgets and professional standards.

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status with an appropriate professional institution would be advantageous.
  • Relevant experience in structural engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Good technical knowledge of structural design, assessment and investigation across a range of building types.
  • Experience with structural calculations and design using appropriate engineering principles and software.
  • Confident carrying out site inspections, assessing structural issues and producing clear and practical technical reports.
  • Good understanding of construction methods, materials and building structures.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and client relationship skills, with a professional and approachable manner.
Why Join the Consultancy?
