Job description

Job Description

Capital PCC is a leading multidisciplinary property consultancy, providing expert advice in structural engineering, fire safety, building compliance, and project management. We work closely with clients across the social housing, commercial, and education sectors, offering innovative and value-driven solutions.

Since 2010, we have built strong partnerships with social landlords, commercial property owners, and developers. As we continue to grow, we offer outstanding career progression opportunities within a dynamic and forward-thinking environment.

In 2025, Capital will open a new state-of-the-art head office in Whetstone, North London (just an 18-minute tube ride from Euston), featuring an on-site gym, breakout spaces, and collaborative work environments.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our growing team. As a key member of the structural engineering department within our multidisciplinary consultancy, you will work closely with the Director for Structural Engineering, supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects focused on existing buildings rather than new builds.

This is an opportunity to take responsibility for the design and management of individual projects, working on the assessment, remediation, and strengthening of structures. You will contribute to complex structural investigations, refurbishment schemes, and defect analysis, playing a vital role in ensuring the long-term integrity of buildings.

Life as a Structural Engineer at Capital:

As a Structural Engineer at Capital, your role will centre on the remediation, refurbishment, strengthening, and upgrading of existing buildings, rather than new-build developments. From the outset, you will collaborate closely with architects, surveyors, and clients to develop safe, efficient, and sustainable design solutions tailored to existing structures.

Your work will involve conducting feasibility studies and structural assessments, carrying out in-depth evaluations of building structures, defects, and failures, and providing expert recommendations for repair, strengthening, and refurbishment. You will take the lead in structural investigations and defect analysis, diagnosing issues in medium- and high-rise buildings, identifying causes, and developing cost-effective remediation solutions.

In addition, you will be responsible for refurbishment and strengthening design, producing detailed structural designs for re-modelling, strengthening, and upgrading existing buildings across a range of materials. Your role will extend to on-site inspections and progress monitoring, ensuring that all work adheres to design specifications, safety standards, and best practices.

A key part of your role will be ensuring compliance with UK building regulations, British Standards, Eurocodes, and CDM Regulations while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, including fire engineers, architects, surveyors, and contractors, to align structural solutions with broader building safety and compliance strategies. You will also act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing clear, well-structured technical reports and remediation recommendations.

At Capital, you will have access to ongoing professional development, training, and career progression opportunities, allowing you to enhance your expertise in structural remediation and defect analysis while working on high-impact projects in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Ideally, we are looking for

Please note: We know that no candidate will be the perfect match for everything listed here, so if you feel you’re close to the brief but not an exact match, we encourage you to apply.

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Chartered (IStructE/ICE) or working towards Chartership.
  • 5 years of post-qualification experience, with a focus on existing buildings, remediation, and refurbishment.
  • Experience diagnosing building defects, identifying causes, and designing appropriate remedial solutions.
  • Experience in structural re-modelling, strengthening, and refurbishment of medium- and high-rise buildings.
  • Understanding of ground investigations, contamination testing, foundation design, and appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, British Standards, Eurocodes, CDM Regulations and BSA.
  • Proficiency in structural design software, Microsoft Office, Tekla, TEDDS, and a willingness to adopt emerging digital technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, report-writing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
