The role

The Specialist Structures Engineering (SSR) team is a group of Engineers responsible for designing major structural elements supporting the construction of nuclear submarines. This includes designing rigs, jigs, fixtures, and various load-bearing structures from small castings to large submarine units.

• Analysis of complex steel structures
• Experience with computer-based analytical techniques such as finite element analysis, CAD modelling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame)
• Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes
• Responsibility for approvals, checking analysis, and outputs
• Supporting the production of concept drawings, layouts, and technical documents to meet contractual, timeline, and budget requirements

Key Skills

• Expertise in structural steel analysis
• Degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering with a structural focus
• Understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, lifting, handling, and LOLER regulations
• Proficiency in ABAQUS, Foran, MathCAD, and Excel
