Base Location: For this role, successful applicants must be based in one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

The role

As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for a Structural/Civil OHL Engineer to join our newly formed Offshore AC Project Engineering team. This role will help drive our Island projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero, facilitating connection to HVDC systems, including state-of-the-art AC plant, grid control, and stabilization technology.

You will

  1. Prepare and review designs through development and execution phases, including route selection, substation tie-ins, and diagrams.
  2. Promote best practices within OHL design and installation by suggesting improvements in specifications, technology options, and risk management.
  3. Manage and promote safety within projects by implementing CDM procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  4. Be responsible for engineering delivery on projects with a typical capital value of £50m to £100m. Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Lead Project Managers, and Project Managers to ensure successful project delivery, managing engineering and quality risks.

You have

  1. Experience working on transmission networks, specifically in overhead line development, design, and specifications. Ability to technically assess issues and propose solutions.
  2. Good understanding of relevant legislation affecting transmission network management, including CDM & ESQCR.
  3. Effective communication skills to clearly convey complex technical issues to senior management.
  4. Confidence working with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally, and ability to build strong relationships.
  5. Ideally, a Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or relevant engineering discipline, and Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
