Qualifications

Employment Type:Full-Time, 12-month FTC (Maternity Cover)

Lancashire Cricket Sports Science and Medicine Team are seeking applications from Strength & Conditioning Coaches to join our team. Lancashire Cricket strive to be leaders in performance both on and off the field, and as a key member of our team you will have the opportunity to work as part of a well-established multidisciplinary Science & Medicine Team. This role will provide opportunity to work across both male and female squads from pathway to senior international players. You will help to physically prepare the players for the increasing demands of Professional and Pathway Cricket, aiming to minimise the impact of injury and illness, whilst maximising performance.

Hours of work -Flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends.

Salary - £24,000-£28,000

SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
  • To deliver outstanding strength and conditioning support to the Boys Academy, EPP and pathway squads.
  • To support and assist the Senior Men’s physical preparation in line with the growing demands of the game, with particular focus on the 2nd XI squad and Boys Academy.
  • Maximise performance, minimise the risk of injury and set physical benchmarks for all cricketers as identified by Lancashire and the England & Wales Cricket Board.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Alongside the Lead Men’s Strength & Conditioning Coach and Lead Pathway Strength & Conditioning Coach, optimise physical preparation and Long-Term Athlete Development strategies for all pathway players in line with the Science & Medicine Team’s values.
  • To assist and support all areas of Strength & Conditioning for the Senior Men’s squad including gym based, field based and rehabilitation sessions.
  • Lead Match Day Strength & Conditioning support for Men’s 2nd XI, Boys Academy, U18 and Pathway Squads
  • Collect, analyse, interpret, and appropriately share training workload data (including GPS) for Senior Men’s, Boys Academy and U18 players.
  • To implement recovery strategies for all players in line with the Science & Medicine Team’s values.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of work conducted with each individual athlete, fully complying with and contributing to the development of our sports science, strength and conditioning support structure through detailed monitoring and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate closely with the physiotherapists on physical preparation and rehabilitation of Senior Men’s, Academy and Pathway players and seek support, when appropriate, from the wider MDT including Doctor, Dietitian and Sports Psychologists.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
  • Undergraduate Sports Science/Strength & Conditioning degree.
  • Desire to work within a high-performance sporting environment and drive the physical development of young athletes.
  • UKSCA accreditation or equivalent or be able to gain accreditation in first 6 months of employment.
  • Minimum 2 year experience of working within team sport in a sport science related role.
  • Exceptional communication skills ensuring information is reported promptly to the Lead Men’s Strength & Conditioning Coach, and the wider Sport Science & Medicine team as required.
  • Current professional indemnity insurance cover.
  • Up to date first aid qualification
  • Full Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft office, word, excel.
  • The nature of the role necessitates the need to work some evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Desirable
  • A postgraduate qualification specialising in a Sport Science related discipline.
  • Experience of GPS software within team sports – Catapult sports desirable
  • Experience working in cricket or an understanding of the fundamentals of the game of cricket.
  • Experience working with both senior and pathway athletes.
  • Knowledge of principles of maturation and tailoring programmes accordingly.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Excellent knowledge and delivery skills in the areas of weightlifting and resistance training techniques, plyometrics, speed and agility development, and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills allowing you to liaise easily with players and coaches of all ages and genders.
  • Experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of strength and conditioning programmes for developing, youth athletes and ideally cricketers.
  • To have a background knowledge and understanding of cricket including the unique physical demands and skills.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
  • An understanding of individual responsibility in complying with the health and safety, and Code of Conduct at Lancashire Cricket.
  • The position requires that the successful candidate works with young athletes, therefore they will be required to undergo enhanced disclosure checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
