Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Street Cleansing Light / Medium Goods Vehicle Driver to keep streets, parks and public spaces clean and safe. The role combines driving with cleansing and environmental tasks across the borough.

You will drive allocated vehicles, collect litter, empty bins, remove waste, and assist with maintenance checks. A flexible, team‑oriented approach is essential for delivering high‑quality frontline services.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in an outdoor environment.
• Two years driving experience.
• Understanding of Health and Safety systems including manual handling and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Drive light and medium goods vehicles safely and responsibly.
• Collect litter and cleanse streets, footpaths and public spaces.
• Empty litter bins and dog waste bins.
• Remove fly-tipped waste, graffiti and dead animals.
• Carry out routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
• Operate and maintain equipment, tools and plant.
• Report defects and ensure vehicles are clean and serviceable.
• Engage positively with residents and the public.
• Support environmental enforcement investigations as required.
