Job description

Strategy Lead - In-House Creative Agency

We're working with a UK consumer brand, as it continues to build out its in-house creative agency. The agency brings strategy, creative, design and production closer together to create more joined-up campaign work. They’re now looking for a creatively driven Strategy Director to strengthen the strategic capability within the studio and help connect brand thinking, marketing priorities and creative execution.

The role

This is a broad communications and creative strategy role, working closely with the Creative Director and senior marketing stakeholders. You’ll get involved before a brief is fully formed, helping teams clarify the challenge, identify the audience opportunity and define what the work needs to achieve. From there, you’ll turn business, brand and audience insight into strong creative strategy across major campaigns and ongoing content.

Social will be an important part of the remit. The brand is looking at how it can develop more distinctive social identities, create stronger always-on content systems. You’ll also think beyond individual channels. Campaigns can stretch across social, OOH, CRM, PR, paid media and owned platforms, so the role needs someone who can develop an organising thought and then help teams understand how it should flex across different environments.

What you’ll be doing
  • Shape campaign and communications strategy from the earliest stages of the briefing process
  • Bring together audience, cultural, behavioural and category insight to identify opportunities
  • Develop clear creative territories and briefs that give creative teams something meaningful to work from to make that interesting 'creative leap'
  • Help build distinctive social and content strategies rather than simply adapting campaign assets for social
  • Think about audiences by mindset and motivation, not just traditional demographic segmentation
  • Work closely with creative, design, media, CRM, PR and production teams to develop integrated ideas
  • Help determine how a central idea should behave differently across paid, owned and earned channels
  • Use performance and audience insight to refine thinking and improve future work
  • Play an active role in developing the strategic standards, processes and culture of a growing in-house agency
Who they’re looking for

You’re likely to be operating at Strategy Director, Planning Director or Strategy Partner level within an integrated creative, digital or social agency, or already working within a strong in-house agency.

You’ll need:

  • Strong creative, communications or campaign planning experience
  • The ability to move comfortably between brand thinking, audience insight and execution
  • A strong understanding of contemporary social and content strategy
  • Experience developing integrated work across multiple channels
  • The ability to turn complicated business or marketing challenges into simple, motivating strategic direction
  • Confidence working closely with senior creatives and constructively challenging the work
  • Enough commercial and organisational maturity to operate effectively within a large, complex business

This isn’t a role for a strategist who wants to sit at the end of the briefing process. They need someone who enjoys getting upstream, working out what problem actually needs solving and then staying close enough to the creative development to make sure the strategy translates into the work.

We are committed to ensuring and supporting representation from all backgrounds across the creative industry, irrespective of race, religion, belief, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic background.

With this in mind, we welcome applications from all areas of the community. Please do get in touch and let us know if there is any additional support or reasonable adjustments we can cater for, to ensure our process and roles fit your needs and creates a comfortable & enjoyable recruitment process.
