Job summary

Northern Trains Limited is seeking an Operational Readiness Manager (Training) to lead the training planning across our depots, align data with future requirements and ensure our traincrew are ready for the timetable of tomorrow.

You will manage Training Coordinators, develop processes, forecast training needs from performance data, and drive improvements in efficiency and data accuracy across the network.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and managing a team with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills and sound judgement for conflicting priorities.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret complex data.
• Ability to produce clear, concise reports that combine quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Willingness to collaborate with colleagues across operational and business areas.
• Experience working with traincrew grades would be highly beneficial.
• Knowledge of the Northern network and operation.
• Experience working with trade union partners would be beneficial.
• Experience using IRMA and TRACS Roster would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Training Coordinators to plan training consistently across operations.
• Develop processes and share best practices across the business.
• Plan and oversee traincrew training for BAU, projects and ad hoc needs.
• Collaborate with Traincrew Strategy, Training Academy, RPC and local management to reduce outstanding training and time-to-train.
• Own quality and accuracy of traincrew training, route and traction data across systems.
• Analyse training performance and forecast future requirements.
• Audit driver training information and matrices for accuracy.
• Use Driver Training Toolkits data to identify impactful route learning.
• Support Operational Managers with linking processes to improve efficiency.
• Provide analysis and forecasting for timetable changes and major projects.
• Model scenarios to understand train service coverage.
• Develop core route plans for each depot.
• Work with Operational Readiness Managers to understand diagram coverage and utilisation.
• Lead planning and delivery of traincrew training projects linked to infrastructure/engineering.
• Coordinate with Service Planning, Control and Engineering when extra units/paths needed.
• Keep operational training dashboards, reports and trackers up to date.
