Job summary

National Physical Laboratory in the UK seeks a Risk Officer for the Time & Frequency department to own the programme's approach to risk. You will ensure risks and issues are identified early, understood clearly, and managed with the right level of urgency, while working with workstream leads to reflect risk in reporting and decision-making.

You will produce risk reporting for boards, track mitigations to completion, and embed best practice across the programme.

Qualifications

• Experience managing risk on complex projects or programmes, ideally in government or infrastructure.
• Ability to facilitate workshops and challenge risk owners constructively.
• Ability to turn a messy risk register into a clear, prioritised picture.
• Confident communication with delivery teams and senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the programme risk and issue register, keeping entries current and well evidenced.
• Facilitate risk identification and review workshops with workstream leads.
• Assess and prioritise risks and issues, challenge proposed mitigations.
• Produce risk reporting for programme boards and senior stakeholders.
• Track mitigation actions to completion and escalate as needed.
• Advise on risk management best practices and embed a consistent approach.
• Ensure risk is integrated into governance and reporting cycles.
• Support audits and external scrutiny of the programme's risk position.
