Job summary

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking a Risk Officer for the Time & Frequency department to own the programme's risk approach, ensure risks are identified early, and drive mitigations with owners. You will work with workstream leads and governance to embed risk in reporting and decision-making, while supporting audits and external scrutiny.

You will ensure risk is reflected in governance and reporting cycles, with clear escalation and delivery of mitigations.

Qualifications

• Experience of managing risk on complex projects or programmes, ideally in a government or infrastructure setting.
• Ability to facilitate risk workshops with workstream leads and teams.
• Ability to transform a messy risk register into a clear, prioritised picture.
• Confident communication with delivery teams and senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the programme risk and issue register with evidence and ownership.
• Facilitate risk identification and review workshops with the programme team.
• Assess and prioritise risks and challenge mitigations with owners.
• Produce risk reports for programme boards and senior stakeholders.
• Track mitigation actions to completion and escalate when needed.
• Advise on risk management best practice and embed a consistent approach.
