Job summary

The University of Manchester is seeking a motivated and collaborative Research Development Manager to contribute to the development and implementation of research and innovation priorities. You will work with senior academic leadership to support research and innovation activities in the Faculty.

The role focuses on building relationships with funders, guiding funding applications, and aligning faculty initiatives with central university structures while promoting diversity and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Educated to post-graduate/PhD degree level or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject.
  • Experience of playing a substantive role in the preparation/evaluation of large, complex grant proposals and delivering an increase in research funding.
  • Good knowledge of and previous experience of using software and online tools related to research/bibliometric outputs.

Responsibilities

  • To play a leading role in the development and implementation of R&I strategies led by the Vice Dean for R&I, working closely with the Associate Dean for R&I in the School of Health Sciences, and other senior academic colleagues.
  • To develop strategic relationships with funders. Capture intelligence to understand funder priorities and provide advice on which grant competition will result in the highest chances of success.
  • To assimilate and effectively communicate information and opportunities from funding bodies, central University sources and from within the Faculty and advise staff on funding applications to optimise research grant income.
  • To drive forward initiatives arising from the Faculty’s R&I strategies, ensuring these link effectively with other Faculties and central University structures, and to develop project plans and business cases in collaboration with relevant colleagues.
