Job summary

University of Manchester is seeking a Research Development Officer to join the Research Development and Impact team within the Faculty of Humanities. This two-year post will help researchers build large interdisciplinary grant bids and deliver training to boost funding success.

The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio, stay up-to-date with research policy, and provide authoritative grant-capture advice across career stages, requiring superb written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent education, training or professional experience.
  • Experience of playing a substantive role in the preparation of large, complex grant proposals
  • Knowledge of the UK's research funding and impact / innovation landscape
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and submit high-quality materials on time
  • Numerical ability to review and advise on research grant budgets, familiarity with costing and pricing models.
  • Analytical ability to collect and interpret complex information relating to regulations and policies, ability to determine trends and therefore anticipate opportunities in the funding arena

Responsibilities

  • Build a strong pipeline of future large grant winners across the SALC portfolio.
  • Deliver targeted training to researchers to improve grant capture and bid-writing skills.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of interdisciplinary projects and provide authoritative advice on funding opportunities.
  • Support researchers at all career stages and stay abreast of policy changes affecting funding and impact.
