Job summary

Bowmay Consulting has an opening for an experienced Purchasing Manager in Greater Manchester with an engineering background. You will lead strategic and operational purchasing across the site and drive procurement strategies in alignment with business objectives.

You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate high-value contracts, and mentor a team of six. The role requires strong negotiation, MRP/ERP experience (preferably SAP), and readiness for occasional overseas travel.

Qualifications

• Proven purchasing or procurement management experience within engineering.
• Strong commercial and negotiation skills with experience managing complex supply chains.
• CIPS/MCIPS qualification or equivalent professional standard.
• Engineering qualification or strong technical aptitude, including the ability to read engineering drawings.
• Experience with MRP/ERP systems, ideally SAP.
• Experience managing and developing a purchasing team.
• Willingness to undertake occasional overseas travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic and operational purchasing activity across the site.
• Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with wider business objectives.
• Manage the purchasing budget, supplier relationships and high-value contract negotiations.
• Drive cost savings, continuous improvement and supply chain resilience.
• Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality and Finance to ensure material availability.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of six direct reports.
