Job summary

Bowmay Consulting is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager with an engineering background for a premier client in Greater Manchester.

You will lead strategic and operational purchasing across the site, manage the budget and supplier relationships, drive cost savings, and mentor a team of six direct reports.

The role requires reading engineering drawings, familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (preferably SAP), and CIPS/MCIPS credentials. Occasional overseas travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Proven purchasing or procurement management experience within engineering.
• Strong commercial and negotiation skills; manage complex supply chains.
• CIPS/MCIPS qualification or equivalent professional standard.
• Engineering qualification or strong technical aptitude; read engineering drawings.
• Experience with MRP/ERP systems, ideally SAP.
• Experience leading a purchasing team.
• Willingness to undertake overseas travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic and operational purchasing activity across the site.
• Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with wider business objectives.
• Manage the purchasing budget, supplier relationships and high-value contract negotiations.
• Drive cost savings, continuous improvement and supply chain resilience.
• Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality and Finance to ensure material availability.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of six direct reports.
