We are now looking for a

Strategic Purchaser

to join our team working for a better future.

The preferred location for the position is in Havant, UK.

What you will be doing

The Strategic Purchaser is responsible for strategic sourcing from suppliers and responsibility area. You will manage, expand and develop global supplier base to meet the long-term business requirements and will be accountable of leading the timely introduction to market of new sources or new products in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.

As Strategic Purchaser, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Support and develop supplier base, performance, relationships and negotiations in close cooperation with OP and Supply Chain Manager.
  • Create and update agreements with suppliers and supplier master data in relevant parts. This is data agreed with supplier in contract (SSPA etc.)
  • Support/participate in negotiations, secure supplier capacity and long-term forecasting.
  • Ensure Quality, Delivery, Lead Time and Cost development and Compliance of materials and services for own area of responsibility.
  • Gather and analyse spend and supplier data, execute benchmarking, provide data to the relevant OP's and Supply Chain Manager.
  • As a part of Wärtsilä Part Approval Process, manage sourcing and supplier-related quality assurance involving Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and validation procedures for suppliers.
  • Secure compliance to Supply Management processes/procedures, tools, strategies and agreements.
  • Support material/services for cost budgeting and follow-up.
  • Monitor supplier performance with Supplier development function (SDE).
  • As part of active Performance management Communicate progress and escalate recurring issues to Supply Chain Manager.
  • Support SDE with non-conformity issues as required.
  • Support the OP, oversee contract management, including renewals and amendments, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Proven experience within a supply chain role, preferably within defence, manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Excellent understanding of direct material cost drivers and proven track record of cost reduction strategies implementation
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentations skills
  • Solution oriented, pro-active, problem solving and result driven attitude to work
  • Self-guided and proactive team player, able to operate under pressure
  • Ability to negotiate and sustain networking relationships.
  • Ability to work in fast pace, dynamic and changing environment.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English language.

In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 40%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.
