Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a System Planning and Investment Engineer to join the System Optimisation Team in Scotland. You will lead power system planning to integrate low-carbon generation into the North Scotland transmission network.

Role involves developing optimisation models, maintaining system models, and working with stakeholders to optimise activities and ensure regulatory submissions are well-supported. Flexible First approach with base location in Perth or Glasgow.

Qualifications

• Experience in power system analysis, design and outage planning within Transmission.
• Familiarity with electrical theory and power system analysis tools such as PSSE/PowerFactory.
• Knowledge of electricity industry interfaces with generators, regulators, and transmission owners.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and apply optimisation models for the transmission network to assess performance and constraints.
• Optimise network topology, energisation sequencing, outage strategies, and constraint management for system studies.
• Build, update, and validate power system models using industry-standard tools (PSSE, PowerFactory).
• Use data analytics and automation to enhance optimisation workflows and develop digital tools.
• Collaborate with planning, outage, operations, and external stakeholders; present technical results clearly.
