Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Planning Policy and Place Manager to lead the preparation and delivery of planning policy initiatives, including the North Yorkshire Local Plan. You will manage a team, influence decision-makers, and work with a broad range of stakeholders to support housing, economic growth and sustainable places.

You’ll lead major policy projects from inception to adoption, coordinate cross-department collaboration, and drive improvements while maintaining strong

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex planning policy and plan-making programmes from inception to independent examination.
• In-depth knowledge of planning legislation and national planning policy.
• Proven ability to manage staff, budgets and resources in a complex organisation.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and build partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, review and implementation of the Local Plan and other key planning documents.
• Provide expert advice on planning policy, place-shaping and legislative requirements.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team across multiple locations; manage complex projects.
• Oversee consultation and engagement programmes with communities and stakeholders.
• Represent the council at examinations, inquiries, hearings and partnership meetings.
