Job summary

Wokingham Borough Council is seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join the Compass Team as a Parenting Assessor. This full-time, permanent role focuses on high-quality parenting assessments to support pre-proceedings and court decisions.

You will work with parents, children and networks using relationship-based, systemic and trauma-informed approaches, producing clear reports and providing evidence in professional and legal settings.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical assessment and report-writing skills.
• Knowledge of child protection, the Children Act framework and public law processes.
• Ability to work within court timescales and provide clear, defensible written reports.

Responsibilities

• Plan, undertake and complete high-quality parenting assessments within pre-proceedings and court timescales.
• Assess parenting capacity, risk, protective factors and motivation to change.
• Produce clear, balanced reports for professional meetings and the Family Court, with oral evidence when required.
• Work with parents, children and family networks, adapting to communication and accessibility needs.
• Collaborate with social workers, legal colleagues, Cafcass and partner agencies to gather and analyse information.
• Provide consultation and coaching to practitioners to improve parenting assessment practice.
