Job summary

Zachary Daniels Recruitment are working with a growing FMCG distribution group in County Durham, with regular travel to the Southern operation. As Operations Director you will own multi-site performance, lead the management team, shape the operating model and ERP improvements, and drive growth while maintaining service, quality and safety.

Reporting to the Board, you’ll manage cost, develop robust KPIs and partner with the Board on strategic change, with a competitive package including 85k-95k

Qualifications

• Proven senior operational leadership across warehousing, distribution, fulfilment, logistics or similar.
• Experience managing multiple sites or significant third-party operations.
• Ownership of operational budgets and cost bases with evidence of efficiency gains.
• Experience scaling operations during growth and building supporting structures.
• Strong commercial/financial understanding including cost-to-serve and margins.
• Experience managing third-party logistics providers and accountability for service and cost.

Responsibilities

• Take overall accountability for operational performance across multiple sites and third‑party partners.
• Lead and develop the operational management structure for greater accountability.
• Build the model to support significant growth including capacity, labour, space, equipment and systems.
• Own the cost base including labour, transport and storage, driving cost improvements.
• Drive improvements in productivity, efficiency and cost-to-serve without compromising service or quality.
• Manage relationships with third‑party logistics partners and ensure service standards.
• Lead the commercial assessment of the operating model, including insourcing vs outsourcing.
• Build business cases for the Board with clear financial analysis.
• Ensure readiness for future site development and changes to the operating model.
• Establish KPI and performance-management cadence across the operation.
• Lead ERP/WMS adoption and ensure data accuracy and operational discipline.
