Job summary

National Gas seeks a Market Development Lead to guide market activities underpinning regulatory obligations and the company strategy. You will engage stakeholders, influence policy, and lead complex change projects within the GB energy market as it moves toward net zero.

You will drive the development of market frameworks, collaborate with internal teams and regulators, and oversee projects from scoping to implementation with a focus on strategic outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in economics, business, engineering or equivalent senior level work experience.
• Understanding of regulated markets, utilities, energy policy or market frameworks is advantageous.
• Experience leading complex projects or programmes and engaging with regulators/government.
• Strong written communication skills for reports, briefing papers and consultation responses.
• Ability to influence and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with regulatory, governance or market change processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex modifications to governance arrangements and UNC-related changes.
• Engage industry workgroups and perform impact assessments with industry.
• Develop modification strategy and legal text with internal/external teams.
• Identify internal impacts and lead implementation with the business.
• Develop market development projects for multi-molecule strategies (blending, hydrogen, biomethane, CCUS).
• Develop National Gas positions on consultations and shape high-quality responses.
• Build relationships with DESNZ and Ofgem to influence policy and industry thinking.
• Provide direction to junior team members and transfer knowledge.
