Job summary

WMCA in Birmingham seeks a Programme Investment Appraiser to influence multi-million-pound investments across the region. You will appraise business cases, produce high-level summaries, and present evidence-based recommendations to Investment Panel and Board.

You'll coordinate with project owners, legal teams, and external advisers to ensure robust, compliant business cases, delivering on time and within budget. The role is a 12-month fixed-term contract with interviews planned in late Oct 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience in a project/PMO environment within a public or private sector setting.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to brief and present.
• Excellent written and analytical abilities to summarise complex information.
• Self-motivated, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to influence across all levels and coordinate multiple activities.
• Customer and results oriented with good planning and time management.
• Good collaboration across teams to develop robust business cases.

Responsibilities

• Appraise investment projects in WMCA's Investment Programme and prepare reports aligned with Green Book.
• Plan workload to ensure timely business case appraisals for Investment Panel/Board.
• Lead on appraisal and assessment of projects and secure external critique when needed.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to clarify issues and produce high-level summaries.
• Support Investment Panel meetings and present business case recommendations.
• Ensure conditions in investment decisions are reflected in legal agreements and plans.
• Advise multiple teams on developing robust, compliant business cases for WMCA investments.
