Job summary

University of Sheffield is seeking an experienced Head of Communications to oversee internal and student engagement. You will lead a high-performing team, providing strategic advice to senior leaders and ensuring impactful, timely communications across the university.

You will shape crisis communications, advise the Vice-Chancellor and Executive Board, and drive cross-university campaigns and change programmes with evidence-led improvements.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Communications or a related subject or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable experience leading strategic staff and/or student communications within a large, complex organisation.
• Significant knowledge of communications and engagement, with understanding of staff and student audiences.
• Experience leading and evaluating communications for large cross-university projects and campaigns.
• Proven ability to lead and manage individuals and teams with motivation and engagement.

Responsibilities

• Develop the strategic approach for internal and student communications, with measurable outcomes.
• Provide strategic leadership to Internal and Student Communications teams and resolve complex issues.
• Lead communications for large projects and change programmes with careful management of risk and impact.
• Oversee campaigns and initiatives to drive staff and student engagement, pride and advocacy.
• Lead crisis and incident communications with prepared plans and staff training.
