Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking an experienced Head of Communications to lead strategic internal and student communications and provide guidance to senior leadership on engagement and reputation. You will manage a high-performing team and oversee crisis and large cross-university campaigns.

This role requires a proactive, influential communicator with a strong track record in stakeholder engagement, autonomy, and strategic thinking within the Higher Education sector.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Communications or a related subject or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable experience leading strategic staff and/or student communications and engagement in a large, complex organisation.
• Experience in leading, implementing and evaluating communications and engagement for large, complex cross-university projects and campaigns.
• Demonstrable experience leading and managing individuals and teams and providing expert guidance during crises and change.

Responsibilities

• Develop the strategic approach for internal and student communications with measurable outcomes.
• Provide strategic leadership to Internal and Student Communications teams and manage resources and objectives.
• Lead communications for large cross-university projects and crisis/incidents with rapid and well-judged response.
• Build relationships with senior leadership and stakeholders to advise on communications and engagement strategies.
• Ensure evaluation, evidence and insights inform continuous improvements in service delivery.
