Job summary

HM Treasury in Darlington (Feethams House) is seeking a Financial Reporting and Budgeting Accountant to support annual reporting, budgeting and in-year financial management. You will work across Strategic Finance and Financial Reporting to consolidate, report and advise on budgetary performance.

The role blends technical accounting with in-year budgeting, involves liaising with auditors, and supports the Estimates process and Spending Reviews in a central government environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant with CCAB body; evidence required if invited to interview.
• Strong skills in financial reporting and budgeting using IFRS.
• Ability to analyse complex data and communicate financial information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Support the interim and year-end preparation of HM Treasury Group’s annual report and accounts, including determining and applying accounting policies and valuation techniques to deliver accurate and high-quality financial reporting.
• Support effective budgetary management of AME by monitoring budgets and forecasts through monthly management accounts for the consolidated Group, and providing financial information and advice to budget holders to support decision making.
• Support the management and maintenance of the Oracle consolidation system and associated processes and controls for both HM Treasury Group’s annual report and accounts and Whole of Government Accounts submission; review of arm’s length body consolidation returns.
• Prepare and maintain high-quality financial and budgetary information for the departmental group, including regular reporting and support for budgetary processes.
• Build relationships with Strategic Finance, Financial Reporting, Spending Team, policy teams and arm’s-length bodies, providing accounting and budgetary advice.
• Support wider financial control and reporting activity, including quarterly VAT returns and data returns; assist in improving accounting models and controls.
