Job summary

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Principal Accountant to lead the Planning and Finance function within the Finance Department. The post focuses on monthly forecasting, annual budgeting and medium-term financial planning to ensure resources align with the Community Risk Management Plan.

You will manage a planning team, work with budget holders and reporting colleagues, and develop reporting with TechnologyOne and Power BI to ensure ledger reconciliation and clear committee papers.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in budget preparation, management accounting and forecasting across multiple budget holders.
• Evidence of constructive business partnering and influencing managers to address financial risks.
• Demonstrated CPD and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and monitoring calendar: monthly forecasting, annual budget, medium-term planning.
• Provide finance business partnering to senior managers and complex portfolios with challenge and action leadership.
• Consolidate revenue forecasts, explain movements, risks and opportunities, and own actions.
