Job summary

ITV plc, based in Birmingham, seeks an experienced Content Editor (Planning) to set the news agenda for TV and digital platforms across East and West Midlands. You will generate original story ideas, make key editorial decisions, and manage a busy news diary while leading a team.

You will train colleagues, supervise planning and online editing for ITVX, and ensure editorial, legal and compliance standards are met. Weekend duty and travel to district offices may be required.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified NCTJ, BJTC or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of media law and compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement.
• Proven track record of producing, sourcing or planning excellent content to deadline and under pressure.
• Experience of successfully coaching, managing and motivating others.
• Experience of delivering innovation across all media platforms.
• A reputation for using a creative approach whilst displaying sound journalistic ability.
• Commitment to D,E & I.
• Excellent Communication skills and decisive decision making.

Responsibilities

• Lead advance planning of content for all news output, online and TV, developing long-term and weekly prospect lists.
• Train and support colleagues, ensuring confidence in newsroom systems.
• Oversee day-to-day newsgathering and coordinate coverage of breaking stories and planned events.
• Oversee high-quality Programme, Bulletins, or Opt production to meet editorial, technical and compliance requirements.
• Edit and curate ITV’s news app and ITVX, driving digital media coverage.
• Build and maintain a wide network of contacts and contribute to network news output.
• Embed diversity, equity and inclusion in output and culture.
• Provide editorial guidance to colleagues and uphold ITV’s standards.
