Job summary

NHS Trust is seeking a Band 8a Capital Accountant to join a busy, forward-thinking NHS finance team. You will lead capital accounting processes and support a substantial capital programme while ensuring robust financial control, reporting and IFRS compliance.

In this permanent role you will manage the Fixed Asset Register, run month-end and year-end activities, and provide capital expenditure insights to project teams across a diverse portfolio of capital investments.

Qualifications

• Experience of capital accounting, fixed asset management and financial reporting.
• Strong reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of IFRS and capital expenditure accounting.
• Ability to communicate with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Experience in large, complex organisations, ideally public sector/NHS.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Fixed Asset Register and assets accounting in line with standards.
• Lead monthly capital accounting and reporting activities.
• Deliver year-end capital accounting and statutory disclosures.
• Provide technical accounting advice on capital expenditure.
• Maintain strong financial controls and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support capital projects from approval through to completion.
