Job summary

Butler Rose is recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business in the Plymouth area for an experienced Strategic Buyer to join their procurement team. This permanent, on-site role in Plymouth offers a salary of £40,000-£45,000 with 33 days' annual leave, a company bonus scheme and strong opportunities to develop within a manufacturing organisation.

Qualifications

• Experience in buying or procurement roles with supplier negotiations and relationship management.
• Experience in sourcing and supplier selection.
• Good commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience using MRP/ERP systems, ideally SAP.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• CIPS Level 4, or willingness to work towards this qualification.

Responsibilities

• Managing direct material commodity groups.
• Leading sourcing, supplier selection and onboarding activities.
• Negotiating pricing, commercial terms and supplier lead times.
• Developing strong relationships with key suppliers.
• Identifying and qualifying alternative sources of supply.
• Managing supplier and component-level risk, including dual-sourcing strategies.
• Supporting new product development through supplier engagement and sourcing.
• Collaborating with Engineering, Production Planning, Quality and Project Management.
• Supporting cost reduction and inventory optimisation initiatives.
• Collaborating with procurement colleagues across the wider business.
