Butler Rose is recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business in the Plymouth area for an experienced Strategic Buyer to join their procurement team. • Experience in buying or procurement roles with supplier negotiations and relationship management.
• Experience in sourcing and supplier selection.
• Good commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience using MRP/ERP systems, ideally SAP.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• CIPS Level 4, or willingness to work towards this qualification.

Strategic Buyer

Butler Rose is recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business in the Plymouth area for an experienced Strategic Buyer to join their procurement team.

This is a great opportunity for a commercially minded procurement professional who enjoys taking ownership of supplier relationships, sourcing and negotiation, whilst working closely with engineering and operational teams.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for a portfolio of direct material commodities, supporting both day-to-day procurement requirements and longer-term sourcing strategy.

The Role

As Strategic Buyer, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing assigned direct material commodity groups
• Leading sourcing, supplier selection and onboarding activities
• Negotiating pricing, commercial terms and supplier lead times
• Developing strong relationships with key suppliers
• Identifying and qualifying alternative sources of supply
• Managing supplier and component-level risk, including dual-sourcing strategies
• Supporting new product development through supplier engagement and sourcing

About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

• Previous experience within a buying or procurement role
• Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management experience
• Experience of sourcing and supplier selection
• Good commercial awareness and confident stakeholder management skills
• Experience using MRP/ERP systems, ideally SAP
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• CIPS Level 4, or a willingness to work towards this qualification

Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment would be particularly advantageous. A degree is desirable but not essential.
