Job summary

Sopra Steria Ltd’s Aerospace Defence and Security sector is seeking a Senior Storage and Backup Engineer to lead the Storage & Backup team. You’ll deploy, configure and administer NetApp ONTAP and manage Veeam backups, with some line management responsibility.

The role is based across sites including Newport, Stevenage and Portsmouth, with circa four days in the office. Applicants must be British citizens eligible for SC clearance and able to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience administering NetApp ONTAP devices and clusters.
• Experience with NAS/SAN provisioning, LUN creation, and NFS/SMB shares.
• Veeam Backup & Replication administration experience.
• Ability to ensure backup/storage platforms meet regulatory, encryption, retention, and audit requirements.
• Line-management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and manage NetApp ONTAP storage environments.
• Administer Veeam Backup & Replication, including job design and retention.
• Lead Storage & Backup team and line-management responsibilities.
• Perform capacity planning and performance tuning.
• Coordinate with sites and on-call/out-of-hours project work.

Are you a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with a specialism in Storage and Backup? Sopra Steria’s Aerospace Defence and Security sector are currently recruiting for a Senior Storage and Backup Engineer to lead the team and offer expert technical insight. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the administration of NetApp ONTAP as a storage engineer and utilised Veeam for backup integration. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Engineer wanting to take the next step in their career as this role also comes with some line management responsibility of the existing Storage & Backup team. With this role there will be scope for on call and out of hours project work. This role can be based out of any of our sites (Newport, Stevenage, Portsmouth) with approximately 4 days per week in the office. Due to the nature of the client, we are only able to progress with British citizens eligible for SC clearance.

What you’ll bring:

• Deploy, configure, and administer NetApp ONTAP devices and clusters, including AFF, FAS, and E-Series platforms.
• Manage NAS/SAN provisioning, LUN creation, NFS/SMB shares, and storage virtual machines (SVMs).
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and storage optimisation.
• Administer Veeam Backup & Replication, including job design, scheduling, retention, and repository management.
• Integrate Veeam with NetApp storage for snapshot-based backups and rapid recovery workflows.
• Accurately assess effort and cost involved with implementation.
• Line Management of the Storage and Backup Tower.

What you’ll bring:

• Extensive experience in Infrastructure Management
• Experience with the Deployment, configuration, and administration of NetApp ONTAP devices
• Knowledge of NAS/SAN provisioning, LUN creation, NFS/SMB shares, and storage virtual machines (SVMs).
• Veeam Backup & Replication administration experience
• Experience Integrating Veeam with NetApp storage for snapshot-based backups and rapid recovery workflow
• Previous experience ensuring backup and storage platforms meet regulatory, encryption, retention, and audit requirements.

It would be great if you had:

• Experience of working to tight SLA’s.
• Accreditation to technical level or equivalent essential (ex: MCSE) and accreditation in another technology area preferred.
